Kiplagat will return to her record course - BARCELONA (ESP): World Half Marathon record holder Florence Kiplagat will return to the record place as she is confirmed again for eDreams Mitja Marato de Barcelona on February 12 next year. Kiplagat clocked in 2014 and 2015 editions in total including split times 5 world records. It will be her fourth start at this event. Her aim is to be the first woman with sub 65 minutes time. Klishina and Stepanova OK
MOSCOW (RUS): Long jump two-time European indoor champion Darya Klishina and whistle-blower 800 m runner Yuliya Stepanova will be able to perform during indoor season 2017 internationally as independent athletes. They don’t need to apply to IAAF once again, informs TASS referring to explanation from the IAAF media department. Likewise, the source informs that the IAAF didn’t receive yet any new individual requests from Russian athletes for the next season.

Top US names for Boston
BOSTON (USA): Olympic medalists and Rio 2016 Olympians Shalane Flanagan, Meb Keflezighi and Galen Rupp will lead the home country charge at the 2017 Boston Marathon, organizers reported today, just three of a strong American team which will toe the starting line in Hopkinton, Mass., on Monday, April 17. Also competing for the unofficial Team USA in Boston will be 2016 Rio Olympic Marathoners Des Linden (2:22:38 PB) and Jared Ward (2:11:30). Other Americans in the race will be four-time Olympian Abdi Abdirahman, recently third at the TCS New York City Marathon; Shadrack Biwott, recently fifth in New York; Sean Quigley, who has a 2:13:30 personal best; Clara Santucci, the 2015 Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon champion; Esther Atkins, the 2014 USA marathon champion; and Jordan Hasay, who will make her marathon debut. World champions confirmed for Clermont
CLERMONT-FERRAND (FRA): Already confirmed for the All-Star Perche meet on February 5 in Clermont are last three World champions in pole vault. Pawel Wojciechowski (2011), Raphael Holzdeppe (2013) and Shawn Barber (2015). On the women side 5 meters sensation and Olympic silver medalist Sandi Morris along with Swiss record holder Nicole Buchler. 

Rohler against top Czechs
OSTRAVA (CZE): Olympic javelin throw gold medalist Thomas Rohler is confirmed for 56th Ostrava Golden Spike on June 28 next year (IAAF World Challenge). He won Ostrava in 2016 and was second in 2015 and will face again the home elite represented by Diamond League winner 2016 Jakub Vadlejch and 2013 World Champion Vitezslav Vesely. Men javelin is one of the main events as Meet Director is legendary Jan Zelezny.

WARSZAWA (POL): Poland´s World Indoor champion in high jump Kamila Licwinko plans only very limited indoor season in order to be ready for summer. Her only meet planned so far is the national championships on February 18-19 in Torun. There is a good possibility if jumping well at nationals she might change her mind and travel to European Indoors in Serbia.

DARMSTADT (GER): German Athletics Federation President Clemens Prokop criticised IOC head Thomas Bach and called for Russian Olympic Committee to be suspended by IOC. 

MOSCOW (RUS): 4x400 m women relay World champion and bronze medallist in individual event in 2013 Antonina Krivoshapka is close to finish her career. “Antonina doesn’t train now as she isn’t sure that Russian athletes will be permitted to perform internationally next year. What is the reason to train without any possibility to compete abroad?” her coach Vladimir Tipayev told TASS. 

ROMA (ITA): Italian Championships in the coming indoor season have been confirmed for February 18-19 in Ancona.

MADRID (ESP): European 5000 m champion Ilias Fifa signed for one of the best Spanish end of the year races. He will compete in Madrid at San Silvestre Vallecana 10 km.

NAIROBI (KEN): In an interview with Athletics Weekly World champion Asbel Kiprop said that his aim is to defend the 1500 m title in London but after that might switch to the 5000 m.

NAIROBI (KEN): Kenya’s multiple World and Olympic steeplechase gold medallist Ezekiel Kemboi on Wednesday described Kenya’s Olympic officials as “tourists” and blamed them for failing to appeal against the disqualification that saw him stripped of his bronze medal at the Rio Olympic Games. MOSCOW (RUS): Championat.com informs that recently in the IAAF Registered Testing Pool the number of Russian athletes increased from 49 to 61. The Pool names are published on the IAAF website in the Anti-Doping section. This pool is subject to testing by IAAF at any times. 

HANNOVER (GER): Fate Tola informed she plans for two marathons in 2017. First in Hannover and then at World Championships in London. The Ethiopian now running for Germany won her first national title in the new country at Frankfurt Marathon last fall in 2:25:42. She plans to attack the Hannover Marathon course record 2:27:07. Hannover Marathon will be held on April 9.

NAIROBI (KEN): Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei has called on British Athletics to reconsider its decision to not send a team to the 2017 World Under-18 Championships in Nairobi. Tuwei says he does not see a reason why Britain cannot compete at both events in the same way Kenya and other nations intend to do. Informs insidethegames. 

AUCKLAND (NZL): Athletics New Zealand announced the team to travel to Melbourne to compete in the Nitro Series in February next year. Athletes have been selected with the nature of the competition in mind. TOKYO (JPN): Organisers of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo informed about their new budget of between ¥1.6 trillion (£11 billion/$13.6 billion/€13.1 billion) and ¥1.8 trillion (£12.4 billion/$15.3 billion/€14.7 billion). The official cost estimate, revealed during a Four-Party Political Working Group meeting, is down from the maximum budget cap of ¥2 trillion (£13.8 billion/$17 billion/€16.4 billion) cited by Tokyo 2020 President Yoshirō Mori last month. ORLANDO (USA): Indiana State University renowned coach John McNichols has passed away. The Indiana State University Athletic Department tweeted "This morning the Sycamore Family lost its leader, a legend and a friend with the passing of Coach John McNichols." He was in his 34th year as program  coordinator for ISU track and field and cross country. Local media inform.
