GLENBROOK NORTH HIGH SCHOOL GETS A+ FITNESS FACILITY WITH HELP FROM LIFE FITNESS

CHILLER PARK, Ill., May 1, 2009 - Teaching the importance of life long health and fitness has always been a goal of Glenbrook North High School faculty. But for many years, students and athletes at Glenbrook North High School would have to wait until 6 or 7 p.m. just to use the weight training and fitness facilities. That's because the Illinois high school's fitness center was located in a small classroom with old weight machines and a few pieces of cardio equipment. With more than 2,200 students and 28 sports teams, the fitness facility was constantly crowded and quickly wearing down.

Then the athletic and physical education departments proposed a 6,000 square-foot fitness facility complete with state-of-the-art strength and cardio equipment. The school's board approved and construction began on the space, but the athletic directors knew they needed more than just a great space -- they also needed long lasting, durable and safe equipment for students and faculty. That's when Glenbrook North High School turned to the experts at Life Fitness.

"The Life Fitness team helped us determine what was most important. We knew we had room for a lot of equipment, but we needed equipment that would be long-lasting and accommodate a variety of athletic levels for the students and faculty," said Bob Pieper, assistant athletic director and head football coach of Glenbrook North High School. "In total, we were able to install more than 40 pieces of Life Fitness Classic Series cardio equipment and 45 Life Fitness and Hammer Strength training machines."

Today, the Glenbrook North training facility can hold two sports teams, or 100 student athletes, all training at once. But the facility hasn't just changed the way sports teams train, it's changed the physical education classes, too. Each day in P.E. class, students spend at least 20 minutes on the cardio machines and 10 minutes doing a core workout. This ensures all students are getting their 30 minutes of exercise per day as recommended by the American Heart Association.

"The new equipment is helping to make a difference in the lives of students and faculty at Glenbrook North High School," said John Stransky, president of Life Fitness. "With resources like this, exercisers can learn the importance of life-long fitness to help them make choices to live longer, healthier lives."

The new fitness facility opened for the 2008-2009 school year and has already seen more then three-fourths of the students use the equipment on a regular basis. Additionally, almost half of the faculty has been able to utilize the facility for their personal fitness goals.

"Coaches, parents and teachers have commented on how much more energy our students have and how much better their performance is because of the opportunity to make fitness a part of their daily lives," Pieper added. "The Life Fitness team understood our needs and was able to provide us with equipment that is truly changing students and faculty lives for the better."
